Bike Ride Events - Summer 2010

This summer, in association with NHS Barnsley, we have organised a comprehensive programme of FREE Bike Rides for all ages and abilities.

There is also a similar programme of Walking Events.

BikeActiv is a new project aimed at the development of cycling round the Barnsley Borough. It aims to promote the many health, fitness and social benefits associated with the activity and help to develop cycling clubs and cycle routes of differing distance and difficulty to cater for the recreational to the professional cyclist.

BikeActiv will work alongside many partners to improve and increase the provision for cycling which will help us reach our aim of vastly increasing the number of cyclists in the Barnsley area.

Bikeability

Bikeability-Barnsley has been established to provide cycle training to the new National Standard for Cycle Training. It is a partnership of Barnsley MBC, Barnsley Primary Care Trust, SportActiv and the School Sport Partnership.

Bikeability is Cycling Proficiency for the 21st Century. It provides appeal and incentive for children and parents alike to undertake quality cycle training to ride safely and well on today's roads.

Cycle training is the vital life-skill required before "more children cycling, more safely, more often" can become a reality, and all the associated benefits of a new generation of young people cycling can be realised including better health and fitness for cyclists and less congestion for us all.
